Adelaide Launches “Smart City Adelaide” Initiative to Improve Energy Efficiency and Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions

Adelaide, Australia – The city of Adelaide has launched its “Smart City Adelaide” initiative, aimed at using technology to improve energy efficiency and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The initiative, which was launched in 2015, includes the implementation of a smart lighting system and the launch of a new mobile app to help citizens access city services.

The smart lighting system, which has been installed in several locations across the city, uses sensors to adjust lighting levels based on the amount of natural light available. This not only helps to reduce energy consumption but also creates a safer and more secure environment for citizens, as well as reducing light pollution.

In addition to the smart lighting system, the city has also launched a new mobile app, which provides citizens with easy access to a range of city services. The app allows users to report issues such as potholes, broken streetlights, and graffiti, as well as providing information on public transport schedules and local events.

The “Smart City Adelaide” initiative is part of a broader effort by the city to become more sustainable and environmentally friendly. By reducing energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions, the city aims to improve the quality of life for its citizens while also contributing to global efforts to combat climate change.

Speaking about the initiative, Adelaide Lord Mayor Martin Haese said, “We are committed to using technology to create a smarter, more sustainable city for our citizens. By improving energy efficiency and reducing greenhouse gas emissions, we can create a better future for our city and our planet.”
